Thomas McDermott, a Democrat and the Mayor of Hammond, Indiana, brought up the legality of using cannabidiol oil (CBD) for treating his Labrador retriever's arthritis at the BGD Legislative Conference in Indianapolis. At the conference was Republican Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill who last month stated that the use of CBD was illegal in most circumstances in his state after a bill passed to allow epilepsy patients to legally use the oil for seizures. McDermott questioned Hill using a story about his dog that suffered from arthritis, noting that his vet recommended using CBD oil to treat the pain. He mentioned that the oil allowed his dog to move around more easily, had more energy, and had improved appetite. McDermott thought aloud that Hill was "grandstanding" on CBD, but Hill simply stated he was following the law as it was written. When McDermott asked if his dog was breaking the law, Hill responded that the Mayor himself was breaking the law – not the dog. McDermott was upset afterwards that Hill accused him for being a criminal for treating his dog with CBD, and he has no plans to change the therapy for his dog.

The World Anti-Doping Authority has ended its ban on cannabidiol, or CBD, paving the way for atheletes to use the drug as from January 2018. Following decades of pressure from athletes and after extensive consultation with experts and other stakeholders, WADA has officially removed CBD from its list of prohibited substances. CBD is widely sought after for its protective and restorative effects. However, CBD that is produced from cannabis may still contain some THC, which remains prohibited.

• As of January 2018, CBD, or cannabidiol, will no longer be a prohibited substance, per the WADA, the World Anti-Doping Agency.
• Many athletes use CBD because, among other things, they claim that it helps them recover after they compete.
• Notably, even though CBD will no longer be considered a prohibited substance, THC, another cannabis byproduct, will remain prohibited.

Cannabidiol oil, or CBD oil, has the potential for use as a treatment of osteoarthritis, inflammatory joint pain, and other related joint pains. CBD is valuable in this regard because it has the potential to, by attaching to CBD1 and CBD2 receptors present in the joints of mammals, reduce the inflammation and pain that patients experience. However, there is still a need for more research. CBD is confirmed to have the potential to solve the issues of pain and inflammation suffered by those with OA, and possibly even prevent OA from developing at all, but as of yet there has been no testing of CBD as a treatment for OA and joint pain.

Billy, an 11 year old living in Northern Ireland, will be the first person to receive a medical marijuana prescription in the United Kingdom. Billy suffers from severe epilepsy, which prevented more traditional medical treatments. His doctor agreed to prescribe it in the wake of overwhelming evidence of the success of Cannabidiol in treating his condition. Where previously Billy would experience up to 100 seizures a days – Billy has not experienced a seizure since starting his treatment 300 days ago in the United States. His mother also notes that it has helped with Billy's Autism – making better eye contact when he plays and communicates. To celebrate this largely important decision, the family is hosting an event, that already has 600 RSVP's, in support of Billy.

The effects of CBD (Cannabidiol) are proving to be effective in lowering blood pressure in early testing. CBD is one of the main active chemicals in marijuana, but the effect in this case is not to get high, but to get calm. A company called PotBotics is using the measurement of EEGs to potentially come to a finding that it truly does reduce blood pressure. The magazine Popular Science published some recent results that in initial dosing, blood pressure DID come down.

There is some good evidence showing CBD's potential in addressing opioid abuse. Researchers from the University of Mississippi have found a lot more evidence that cannabidiol can be a very powerful tool in addressing the scourge of opioid medicine abuse as well as addiction. The study involved morphine and CPP testing. Tests were done on mice and results showed that there is a real potential for cannabidiol to be used in fighting the opioid crisis, which has been deadly.

A recent study conducted at the University of Nottingham in England has shown that a single dose of Cannabidiol can effectively lower blood pressure for individuals that are suffering from high blood pressure. This is great news, considering Cannabidiol is a non-addictive, natural medication. CBD is found in cannabis products but is not what gets you high. That is THC and it's different. Patients are starting to see the benefit of CBD. They are choosing to use it more and more instead of traditional drugs. This is because it lacks the harsh side effects of many of them. It is gentler on the system. Medical marijuana is being allowed in more places which helps as well since no one has to sneak around.

• 80% of the over 2,800 patients surveyed said that cannabis is more potent than opiate for pain management, and almost all surveyed were able to lower their use of opiate when using cannabis.

When someone has cancer they can have chemotherapy to try to get rid of it. This is often effective but the therapy itself poses problems. It can cause nausea and many other problems. One of the things which might help is CBD which is found in cannabis products but which is not the same as THC. It doesn't get you high the way THC will.
